New York University Rubin Hall

The demolition of Rubin Hall is the first step in the construction of NYU Langone Medical Center’s new Science Building at the southeast corner of the main campus. The former dormitory, as well as a section of the adjacent Schwartz Lecture Hall building, will give way for construction of the new state of-the-art research facility, which will provide wet laboratory space, core facilities, administrative offices, conference spaces and public amenities in an expansive, integrated environment. Brandenburg was hired for the dismantling and abatement of Rubin Hall and a three-story penthouse. Crews worked their way down the 14-story building at a rate of roughly eight to nine days per floor. Cranes were used to lower containers of debris and large sections of exterior walls down to trucks for removal. Brandenburg worked closely with the campus project team to minimize impacts and disruptions of the active hospital complex during demolition activities.
